29 Day Challenge - Report on Week 1

What’s coming along really well:

  • Wake by 9: Cakewalk. Knowing that I have to get up makes me go to bed and having a regular schedule means I don’t lie there waiting to sleep.
  • Meditation: Overall I’m happy with this. Going forward I’ll try to do it in the morning right after waking up so I have less on my mind. At night thoughts of tomorrow can be too intrusive.
  • Calories: Total weight loss in 8 days: 4 pounds (from 248 to 244). My eating pattern has totally changed, there’s no desire to overeat. Before bedtime I get a bit hungry but It’s not severe enough to compel me to eat. When I’m on road trips I carry Clif bars so I have something to eat besides fast food. At home having a few walnuts (they’re rich in calories and good fats) blunts hunger.
  • Passive income: I set up a store to sell photos and uploaded a bunch of images to it. I’ll talk more about this in a separate post.
  • No cravings for beef or alcohol.
  • Blogging daily is great. I look forward to it. It also keeps me motivated and honest. Going public on this blog and using Making the Chain keep this whole enterprise humming. (For the record I wrote yesterday but Dreamhost was down for a data center move so I couldn’t post until now.)

What I’m half-assing:

  • Exercise: The weight loss is good, but the exercise is not strenuous enough. I’ll be learning snowboarding Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, and after that I’m going to start hitting the gym. It’s a good sign that just light running and calisthenics are boring now. The first few times back at weight training are hell so I psych myself up before starting a program.
  • Daily artwork: My drawings are pretty half assed (only spending 10-15 minutes a day) at the moment. I’d much rather be doing “Right Brain” drawing exercises or designing characters for my other passive income business idea.

What do you think?

So after week one, do you have any questions, advice, or suggestions for blog posts? Have you started any new good habits you’d like to share? If so post your web address, comments, or your Making the Chain links in the comments. If you don’t have a blog (or want to keep your personal development posts out of your main blog), I suggest Twitter, a lightweight blog that you can also post to via phone text messaging.

  1. I started exercising again. It’s been going well.

I’m starting my “90 day plan” today. It is very similar to your 30 day plan minus the drawing.

Nice Micah. Exercise is so motivating. If you can lift a bunch of metal over your head while your muscles scream then everything else seems so easy. Today I went on a 1.75 hour hike in Runyon Canyon. Great views of L.A.

Way to go Kimberly, make sure to post your progress somewhere public.
