I still keep a detailed food log, but posting them in full didn’t seem useful anymore since I’m eating a lot of the same food all the time.
So far I’ve figured out a few tips:
- Avoiding beef helps you make good decisions elsewhere in your diet. It automatically makes a lot of bad stuff like french fries less appealing.
- Avoiding alcohol limits empty calories and keeps you from overeating.
- Tracking calories makes you go to restaurants that have nutritional information available. When the information is not available you order unprocessed foods that you can reliably look up (eg: oysters, chicken breast, spring rolls, sushi). I eat a lot of the same stuff because guesstimating calories at nutritional sites is a pain.
- Portable snacks like fruit, Clif bars, and nuts are great. Especially on road trips when you’re limited to fast food and gas stations.
