Complaining is worse than useless

The next time you’re whining about something ask yourself:

  • Am I problem solving or just venting?
  • Will venting fix the problem?
  • Does the person I’m complaining to really want to hear this?

Venting and seeking sympathy makes you worse off because instead of fixing the problem you end up feeling good enough to not take the action you need to take.

This also applies to companies. In fact, thinking about the music industry’s constant whining is what inspired this post. Whiny press releases, overzealous litigation, and demanding regulatory protection are the corporate version of complaining.
