My good friend Tom at MySpace has an important message for me!

Today I got this:

I clicked the “read” link out of morbid curiosity. One trip through an annoying and slow login later I saw this:

Really Tom? Some stupid legal boilerplate was worth making me check my MySpace <fingerquotes>inbox</fingerquotes>? I would say that this artificial pageview inflating crap is why that douchebag Zuckerberg is eating your lunch, but Facebook is just as bad.

Listen up social networks, just because you’re compelled by Zawinski’s law to reinvent email (badly) doesn’t mean users like it. If migration patterns from Friendster to MySpace to Facebook are any indicator your users actually take pleasure in jumping ship: “Oh, you’re still on Facebook? I’m on NathansHiveMindofAwesomeness.com now, you should switch!”
