For example, I don't know where to go for web hosting recommendations, levaquin 750 mg uses. Sure, Avelox 500 mg, there are lists of "cheap" sub-$10 hosts, but "cheap" = fail in the clutch.
We need a site that lists hosting companies from crummy shared hosts to expensive dedicated servers, avelox no prescription. There should be editorial ratings, Avelox moxifloxacin hcl tablets, user ratings, and a well moderated forum (Web Hosting Talk exists, but just look at that wall of text, avelox 400 mg uses. Ugh.)
Anyway, today I'm with Dreamhost on the sub $10/month plan, avelox abc. Even with unannounced downtime, Avelox 400 mg price, unbelievable billing disasters, and "bad neighbor" overselling problems, Dreamhost has been okay-ish, levaquin 750 mg uses. Recently though, Avelox 400 mg dosage, pages will hang in the middle of rendering and the WordPress admin interface is unusably slow. It's time to move on
List of things to look for when you need WordPress hosting:
- Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP. Obviously.
- Digg survivability, avelox tab 400mg. I've hardened my site against traffic spikes Avelox abc, , but I'd like to know that the host can sense a short term need for more power and accommodate it. Some low budget hosts cut you off when you have a spike, Avelox 400mg, which is exactly when you don't want your site to fail.
- Subversion. No matter how small your blog is, it needs to be in source control.
- Nigh unlimited domains, side effects of ibuprofen 400mg, email addresses, Avelox moxifloxacin hcl, and MySQL databases. I don't need many, but I just don't want to have worry about it someday.
- Backup, avelox abc pack. My WordPress database is backed up daily and emailed to me thanks to this WP backup plugin, Buy avelox online, and the rest of my blog is backed up with Subversion, but my uploaded blog files (images you see in posts) are not in source control (for technical reasons) and could be wiped out. Speaking of which, I'm going to backup those files right now… ah, much better.
- Root or near-root access.
- Plenty of warning about planned outages and full disclosure of unplanned outages, avelox abc. Most hosts have a status page (ex: Dreamhost's and MediaTemple's) but they don't go out of their way to tell you about problems you might not have noticed.
The front runners so far:
- MediaTemple — The good: Big name bloggers I trust have used and recommended them for years, avelox 500 mg. Their $20 "grid" service seems to fit my needs, Avelox 400, especially digg survivability.
The bad: I keep hearing that their grid service has a lot of downtime. A bit too bleeding edge it seems.
The ugly: Their graphic design is top notch, avelox no prescription. Avelox abc, No uglies here. This matters. Avelox for sale, It's what economists call a signaling mechanism. - Slicehost — The good: Recommended by friend and developer Micah Calabrese (creator of the productivity application Making the Chain). Slicehost claims "guaranteed CPU share and more when available." One click upgrade path (they just allocate more resources to you). Full root access: the slice is all yours and you can install anything, avelox abc.
The bad: You have to install everything (and I mean everything) yourself, avelox abc. They give you a bare box. Avelox 400 mg side effects, This is actually a selling point if you're building web apps because you can fine tune everything, but such control isn't needed for a PHP blog. Also, I like to yell at someone besides myself when something breaks.
The pretty: Their site is gorgeous, not because it's flashy, but because in one page they tell you everything you need to know.
Dark horse candidates:
WTF. candidates:
- Liquid Web Avelox abc, : They look nice, and I've read good reviews, but their site is unbelievably slow, like, 15 seconds per page slow. Does not bode well for a web host.
- RimUhosting: I just love the name. "Branding. We don't need no stinking branding!"
What say you dear readers. Have any recommendations/horror stories. To readers on Typepad or the WordPress hosted option: how is that working out for you. Any plans to switch to self hosting.

Um…hello? Business opportunity!
I’m still on DH. Yeah, it’s sucky, but it’s less sucky than it used to be, and the sucky you know is better than the sucky you don’t.
Please post findings! Maybe…on a site that lists hosting companies from crummy–
Oh, never mind…
So many business opportunities, so little time.
Policing forums is pure hell, so I probably wouldn’t do it. If only there was a way to build a profitable user generated content site without all those pesky users.

Hi Nathan, I understand your concern with our main page being slow because we do have it loading a video on the bottom etc.
Below are a few download tests so you can test out the speed from your connection to our servers.

Hi Bret, thanks for commenting.
A traceroute and ping to your servers says that there are 27 hops with an average ping of 100ms for me. I think the problem is that none of your static site files are cached so on every page load my browser makes about 50 http requests.
Check out my guide to site caching for a fix.

+1 for Slicehost
I’m a big dreamhost fan. Value for money is pretty unparalleled, especially since I couldn’t care less about a bit of downtime.
Note that I do not use their email, otherwise I might care more.
BTW, what wordpress template are you using? It’s quite clean and lovely.
LS,
Dreamhost has worked fine for a long time, but lately it’s just a lot slower, especially when I’m writing, saving posts, and uploading WP images. I’m also getting intermittent hangs. This blog is my “brand” so I need better service.
This WP theme is based on Sandbox but I’ve modified it for easy customization and for printability. Eventually I’m going to release it as a free template so watch this space.
Ha! I’ve used both of your WTF candidates — and loved them both. Both for dedicated boxes.
I, too, have heard great things about Media Temple, and that $20 entry point is very attractive, but I’ve also heard (read) the same issues that you’ve heard.

NearlyFreeSpeech.net seems good: less over-sold; pay for what you use.
I’ve also heard good things about slicehost for real “all the way” do-it-yourselfers.
Dreamhost is a 21st century Ponzi scheme. They buy Green and Democratic certifications instead of host ratings… Their latest front-page pop-up gimmick:
“Salesbot 4000, the robot in charge of creating promotional DreamHost coupons for new customers, has run amok. He’s created a new unauthorized promotional code – 105321 – that we’ve been unable to deactivate…”
