I thought Google was into text ads and not images?
In feeds they run image ads because javascript likely wouldn’t render in RSS readers, and spitting out plain text in XML means the ad would essentially be “hard coded”.
I’m not sure if I’ve just been seeing more obnoxious (is there any other kind) modals since you’ve been writing about them, but lately it seems they are *everywhere.*
Surprisingly, some are on sites that respect and visit often. Smart people that I might otherwise look to for blogging advice.
I predict the demise of the modal in a year.
Oy.
Yes, seeing that piece of horribleness would certainly be convincing if you were on the fence.
It’s weird that people don’t get that the ads on their site (or in their feeds or in the big crazy box that’s blocking the thing I might actually want to read) reflect back on them.
I loved that you clicked it though. Hilarious.
Now I’m totally picturing a cluster of douchebags analyzing their stats and not catching on to the fact that “morbid curiosity” and/or “inability not to click on things” might be influencing their (ew ew ew) “conversion rate”.
