Wordpress Search Engine Optimization
Today my Wordpress dashboard linked to a
guide to SEO'ing your Wordpress blog that's readable by non-techies. Some highlights:
- Good SEO is mostly just good web design and copywriting. This means using friendly URLs, meaningful HTML like <strong> instead of <b>old, and good headlines for the page <title>. Your content and page structure should be readable by humans and bots.
- Write well and often.
- Link unto others as you would have others link unto you.
- Take advantage of Wordpress SEO plugins.
The guide also recommends using social bookmarking chicklets, but I find them tacky and distracting. Your tech-savvy readers who are into
del.icio.us will already have buttons installed in their browser anyway. However, I do put a few chicklets in my RSS feed though
Feedburner.
Chicklets are useful in RSS because they save readers the extra clicks of opening posts in new windows before they can use their browser buttons. So far I haven't seen a Firefox extension that adds 3rd party buttons to posts in
Google Reader, so to my programmer friends out there, get on that will you? :)
